CONCEPT

The brief for this corner property was to design a structure that seamlessly integrates the heritage value of the site with the stunning views of Seapoint Promenade, while also connecting the slope of Lion's Head. The design approach was informed by a contextual study of the urban fabric and architectural cues, resulting in a concept that is sympathetic to the heritage value of the area, while also being trend-responsive and achieving urban integration.

The theme of "old meets new" was incorporated throughout the design, with a focus on blending and integrating textures, style, form, and materiality to create a space that appeals to a diverse range of users.

A "triple bottom line" approach was adopted, valuing place and people/users as much as the profit margin, and a feasibility exercise and spatial development plan were developed to ensure the project's success. The design exploration resulted in a number of design developments, with a key focus on creating a connection point between the existing heritage and the newly proposed extension.

The final design is timeless, with a focus on simplicity in interior finishes, and offers flexibility in layout for both two-bedroom apartments or two one-bedroom apartments with separate entrances and amenities. The design maximizes the developer's gross saleable area while minimizing service areas, and the exterior incorporates a refined Mediterranean aesthetic using clay bricks, concrete, glass, timber, white stippled plaster, and steel.
